Mr. Herman Riley Coffey, age 89, of Barnesville passed away Thursday, July 5, 2012 in a Spalding County Healthcare Facility. A native of Ellijay, he was the son of the late Mr. Clyde Coffey and the late Mrs. Emma Chadwick Coffey, and was also preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Emma Louise Poteet Coffey. He was a Master Lumber Grader and Retired as a Machine Operator from the William Carter Company. Mr. Coffey was a WWII Veteran, having served in the U. S. Army. He received the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, the WWII Victory Medal, the Phillipine Liberation Ribbon, and the Distinguished Unit Award.
Survivors include: His 4 Sons - Herman Richie Coffey (& Pat) of Lamar County , Ernie Coffey of Pike County , Don Coffey (& Ann) of Lamar County , & Earl Coffey (& Vicki) of Lamar County ; 1 Daughter - Sarah Osborne (& Keith) of Ft. Valley ; 15 Grandchildren ; 14 Great Grandchildren ; 2 Great Great Grandchildren ; 1 Sister - Hazel Woods of Ellijay ; 1 Brother - Bill Coffey of Ellijay ; & Numerous Nieces, Nephews, and other relatives.
Funeral Services for Mr. Herman Riley Coffey will be conducted Sunday, July 8, 2012 at 3 O’Clock in the Chapel of Williams Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday evening, July 7, 2012 from 6pm until 8pm.
